Question:
Which liquid dissolves the most calcium in the chicken bone?
Method:
Soak three chicken bones in 150mls Malt vinegar, 150mls Cider vinegar and water. Leave for three days and take out afterwards. Draw a scale to see which bone bends the most.
Hypothesis:
We think that the water won't bend the chicken bone as well as the Malt and Cider vinegar because the water has no acid at all. Out of the Malt and Cider vinegar we really don't know which one will bend the chicken bone the most.
Time chiken bones went into liquid: 12:30pm Sunday 15th June 2014
Time chicken bones came out of liquid 3:30pm 18th June 2014
Scale | |||||||
Least Bend | Most Bend | ||||||
Water | Cider Vinegar | Malt Vinegar |
Conclusion:
Out of the three liquids, malt vinegar bent the chicken bone the most, therefore malt vinegar contains the most acid out of the three liquids.
On the scale above you will see how much the bones bent, from least to most.
Interesting, in my expirement the malt vinegar also was the best aka it made the egg bounce highest...
ReplyDeleteIt's amusing for me to even know that vinegar/any type of liquid could dissolve the calcium in chicken bones!
I like the scale you used Daniel, it makes it easy for me to see the difference in bendyness. Perhaps malt vinegar is more acidic than other vinegars/wines/ciders, which is why it made the egg bouncy and chicken bone bendy.
